For those of you reading my blogs, you already know that with the exception of a few places, I Am rarely a fan of returning to the same place twice. However, this does not hold true for a few places that are local, including the North Fork of Long Island.
That being said, let's talk about the weekend getaways. Now that the school year has started, it definitely becomes a challenge to get out of town with the family (Let alone for a romantic weekend away!) School, work, games, carpool, making lunches and play dates etc. all get in the way, and before you know it, Christmas Break is here. The beauty of driving out east with your family is the short distance it takes to enjoy a beautiful destination. This time of year the North Fork's abundance of farms are filled with pumpkins to pick. That along with apple picking season make for a great weekend.
Over the summer (while the kids were at camp) we stayed at a wonderful b&b - The North Fork Guest house. It was so lovely, clean, quaint, friendly and so very charming. The owners Alaine & Daniel are amazing interior decorators, chef and are extremely knowledgeable of the area. The decor of this B & B is as warm as are Alaine and Daniel and inviting you really feel as if you are visiting friends while staying there. And the food for breakfast is DELICIOUS.
We had planned on taking the Ferry to Shelter Island and going to sunset beach for lunch and spend the day by the beach. But since the weather did not cooperate with us we opted for a nice walk at one of the beautiful preserves on Shelter Island. We then had a wonderful lunch at The Chequit Hotel Red Maple restaurant where the food was delicious (portions were a little small though).
Then it was off to more wineries and 1 brewery. And a fabulous dinner at North Fork Table & Inn, there are few restaurants on Long Island that I have ever found to be as good as North Fork Table & Inn. It is truly one of my favorite restaurants. They also have a food truck on the property open 7 days a week!
