Last weekend at the tail end the kids February Winter break from school we took the kids skiing in the Berkshires.
For those of you who are not familiar with the Berkshires It is basically a bunch of charming small towns located in Western Massachussets all nestled together (Think Hamptons in New England). The Berkshires are great all year round. In the Fall they have gorgeous Folliage, In the Winter skiing and other outdoor activities and for the Spring and Summer they have plenty to do outdoors as well as some really great museums and renowned music festivals and theatre such as; Tangelwood, Boston Symphony Orchestra Summer residency, Jacob's Pillow dance festival and Williamstown Theatre Festival. (Gwyneth and many other famous people have appared there just saying) So...as the only child I got dragged to the Berskhires A LOT. Every Summer we would go for a weekend and see my Dad's friends from college there and go boating in the lake and then go to a concert Tangelwood. We also went often in the Fall for the Folliage FYI... my parents are OBESSED with the changing of the leaves it's "a thing"... I have spent countless weekends once a year on a pilgramige for leaves.... I can write a blog post alone on the Folliage...my husband cannot seem to understand how two people can be THAT interested in the color of leaves which he constantly likes to remind me of this when I complain that I am bored in Boca.
On to the present...so a few years ago I decided it was time for us to go skiing. I started skiing when I was 11 and although I am an awful athlete I actually like skiing. It’s a great family thing to do together, the chair lift alone is good quality time, skiing together as a family and for the siblings is something I think is a great activity for the whole family. Mind you we are not that good or fast and my kids are still learning but they really like it. So for the past few years we go to the Berkshires skiing for a long weekend. We like a little (lesser known) mountain called Basquet. This lesser known mountain is small and not very crowded and not that big so there are less lines to be had. The staff is super friendly and courteous and this type of slope suits our family just fine.
